Millennium Library

Another great indoor location and as of present it's free!   The Millennium library has a literal wall of windows on the east side of the building that provide some great light.  There is also a long staircase and some other neat settings.  It is best to call ahead and have permission before shooting in the library.  Parking outdoors even on the weekends can be a tad tricky but if you don't have a limousine service shuttling you around on the wedding day there is an adjoining indoor parkade that is warm, dry and always has decent parking.

Kings Head Pub

Although this is not my favorite location for lighting and backdrops, it seems to be a frequent request these days for many couples.  The old pub atmosphere and of course the lure of a good beer make it a quick stop to have a drink and shoot a few pics :)  Backdrops are a little limited but if you are looking for a pub style shoot it's certainly the place.  Typically pretty quiet during the weekend afternoons and with admission being a round of drinks for you wedding party it's a good quick stop.

The Train Station

Parking: Pay hourly in lot on north side of station

The Via Rail Train Station is not my favorite place to shoot. I find the spaces that are available in the lobby and stair area limiting for both light and space. My favorite photos to take are directed down to the patterned floor, but I don't find there is much variety in this locale.

But from another perspective via Alex Palma, he thinks this location is awesome if you are looking for a more modern,elegant setting that can definitely the ambiance of a wedding/engagement session.

There is a museum that can be booked for a small fee however it has very low lighting, and very narrow spaces. Not ideal for a large group. Bride & Groom can be done nicely if wanting that low light approach. The staff was terrific to work with and more than happy to accommodate.

The Legislative Building

Outdoor Cost: Free- No booking required

Indoor Cost: Free- Must book a half hour time slot for the Grand Staircase

Parking: free and easy on the weekends- lots of stalls in front and behind the building

There isn't a Saturday almost any time of the year where you wont see a stream on Limousines and weddings parties outside The Legislative building. By far one of the most popular rain backups indoors (because it's free, and provides a warm regal setting) booking far in advance is a must.

Bookings enable the couple, wedding party and family use of the Grand Staircase for one half hour which I personally think is so-so. Most photographers will have their use of the windowed Hallways, arched doorways, pillars and stone walls. I also enjoy the Leg. because in the case of rain, outdoors under the front steps provides some cover.

Outdoors the Legislative building boasts a fountain, multiple staircases, pillars, benches, trees and access to the River. Also of importance is SHADE. During most times of the day, at least one of the outdoor staircases can escape the glare from the beaming sun, although unless overcast the fountain is in high sun for most of the day.

The Hydro Building

A modern indoor location located in the heart of downtown.  The main part of the building includes 2 waterfall walls, leather couches, huge windows on the north and south sides of the building and lots of space.  A great rain plan with decent lighting and a few different backdrops.
