The Fort Garry Hotel

222 Broadway
Parking: metered parking on street/ hotel outdoor and indoor parkade

Okay- so you probably wouldn't be using this location if you didn't have a wedding ceremony or reception taking place in one of the ballrooms- but I typically suggest that this is a GREAT hotel to book a room for "getting ready" or your wedding night because in the case of rain this can be a great backup plan!
The lobby in between the ballrooms on the 7th floor is majestic (great for family and classic couple shots)there are plenty of stairwells, doorways and interesting backdrops. I just love the 10th floor windows and bright white walls and ceilings for some photos as well.

Kings Head Pub

120 King Street
(204) 957-7710

Although this is not my favorite location for lighting and backdrops, it seems to be a frequent request these days for many couples.  The old pub atmosphere and of course the lure of a good beer make it a quick stop to have a drink and shoot a few pics :)  Backdrops are a little limited but if you are looking for a pub style shoot it's certainly the place.  Typically pretty quiet during the weekend afternoons and with admission being a round of drinks for you wedding party it's a good quick stop.

The Conservatory- Assiniboine Park

Cost:
50 minutes: $102.00 + $5.10 GST = $107.10
75 minutes: $152.50 + $7.60 GST = $159.60
100 minutes: $203.00 + $10.15 GST = $213.15
Parking: Free

If you like flowers- this may be the place for you. This huge Atrium is separated into two sections (a jungle type setting- and a English Garden type setting)
I find the jungle side much too dark for large groupings and a pretty tight squeeze as well. The side that is more open (typically where small wedding ceremonies take place) is a bit better for space and typically boasts a bit more color. I do always warn my own clients that because this is an atrium- if it is dark or dreary outdoors- it will probably be dark and dreary indoors as well. This building has no real ceilings so from a photographers perspective bouncing a flash isn't really an option.
In my opinion the biggest downside of this location is that despite your paid booking, it is still open on a free basis to the public who make their way around you. Also, depending on the time of year, the flower section is set to a theme (totem poles, poinsettias, etc.) so it might be a good idea to see what the theme is during the time you plan to be there.

The Hamilton Building

395 Main Street
Cost: 100.00 per hour
Parking: Some metered spots on street/ 4.00 in the parkade behind building

Ahhhhh- The place with the beautiful staircase. White, winding and classic sets the mood for this indoor location. Rented by the hour, this is a beautiful setting for some romantic wedding photos.
I find lighting at this location adequate (provided that there is daylight outdoors) On the second floor, there is are also a few interesting framed archetecture and a great window for some shots as well.

Millennium Centre

389 Main Street

Cost: 100.00 per hour and when available/ 50.00 per additional half hour
Parking: Limited meter parking on the street- 4.00 parking in parkade behind building

Although there is an expense to book and take photos at the Millennium Center, it has a wonderful range of settings as a backup plan or indoor location for any time of the year. I have to admit that I can always count on some beautiful images at the end of the day when we can use this building. This venue also hosts ceremonies and receptions and may not have your requested booking time available if a function is being hosted. As a ceremony venue, I think that lighting is very tricky and best IF ALL POSSIBLE lighting in the main area be turned on. For posed wedding photos in the Tapestry room and various levels, the ceilings are low enough and there is window lighting that provide a nice photo.
Windows, wood paneling and of course that crazy nice ceiling are all selling points and make some beautiful wedding images. One main drawback is this is a heritage building and the beyond the main area there is some dirt and mess- so hike up that wedding dress! Also, there is no elevator, so if members of your wedding party have disabilities or are unable to walk the flights of stairs, it may not be for you.

Cost: Free (requires a pre booking)
Parking: Metered on the streets

A modern indoor location located in the heart of downtown.  The main part of the building includes 2 waterfall walls, leather couches, huge windows on the north and south sides of the building and lots of space.  A great rain plan with decent lighting and a few different backdrops.
